Villas on the Reef, Casa Contenta, is a bright, spacious, beautiful recently renovated & updated beachfront condo, located in the middle of Akumal’s Half Moon Bay. This condo features unobstructed views of the Caribbean.Half Moon Bay is a sheltered (by the 2nd largest reef in the world!) stretch of coastline on the Caribbean Sea. This is a protected bay known for its tranquility, white sandy beach, world class snorkeling/kayaking/paddle boarding all on your front door step – it does have a rocky entrance so please bring water shoes.

The water here is generally clear, calm and shallow, which makes it easy to appreciate the coral reef and its amazing array of marine life, especially the north end. And of course swim with the resident Turtles in HMB or Akumal Bay!

This property is located in a stand alone condo building (only 6 units) with lots of free parking out front or across the beach road. This is a ground floor unit. Condo Property Manager is onsite for your convenience.

Our condo has an open plan layout, full well equipped kitchen, all new appliances including, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer with ice maker & new water osmosis filtration system! Lots of places to lounge or relax. Sleeps 1-4 guests, 1 bedroom with a queen size bed & queen size mattress in the murphy bed in the main living area. There are sliding doors in the bedroom to provide privacy or they can remain open to take in the amazing ocean view from your bed.

Included linens, bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, lounger, cooking utensils/glassware, kayak, snorkel gear & other handy amenities, wi-fi, flat screen smart TV, games, cards, A/C (or enjoy the sea breezes!)

Our patio doors open onto a private terrace & a lovely garden. Follow the landscaped walkway & it will lead you directly to the sun loungers, NEW POOL, property palapa’s, canvas shade area, surf & white sand beach.

Minutes walk to 4 restaurants dine in/take out; La Lunita & La Buena Vida (both on the HMB beach), Jungla Cafe & Surf Cowboy Bar & Grill on beach road. New Que Onda bakery near the lagoon now open also. Wth a lovely walk to many many other restaurants ie: Turtle Bay Cafe, Taverna, Pescador, Lol Ha’ on Akumal Bay, Baransu, Imeldas…..+++

Shopping, grocery, spa, yoga, Akumal Bay & Beautiful Yal-Ku lagoon also within walking distance.

There is a small grocery store within a 2 minute walk, Midway Foods. Akumal General Stores is a 15 minute walk/5 minute drive. Markets or small stores in the Akumal Pueblo, or large mega stores 10 -20 minute drive, Chedraui & Aki in Puerto Aventuras right on 307 hwy. Additional Mega grocery stores in PDC & Tulum. Grocery & delivery services available also.

Akumal is 25 minutes to Playa Del Carmen & 20 minutes to funky eco chic Tulum.

Visit Akumal Bay, 15 minute walk, 8 minute bike ride, 5 minute drive. Find your own beach spot or use Lol-ha Beach Club or Tsuuk Nature Park for entrance (beside ADS, Akumal Dive shop) nature entry with lockers & showers for your use. Akumal Bay also has a sandier entrance to the sea for little or big feet : )

Gorgeous Yal-ku lagoon, where fresh water meets the sea, lots of marine life, 9 minute walk (swimming, snorkeling, lounging, art sculptures, & Chan Kay restaurant here).

Or ATV-in the Akumal Pueblo, local fare, markets, animal sanctuaries, shopping.

Scuba dive with one of 2 local Dive shops/sunset or afternoon catamaran tours. PADI courses, guided snorkeling or fishing excursions.

Other things to note
Great News! -Seaweed Barrier Update as of 04/05/26 -Installation April 6, 2026.!! This will help with any quantities arriving (stops 60-70 % from reaching the shore). The Bay Seaweed Mitigation team has a clean team with ATV/holding bins, & our Condo Manager has team also to clear the shoreline out front of the condo. So by your arrival beach MAY or MAY NOT be pristine as the pics in listing. Worldwide issue all Caribbean Countries, & parts of US summer (now spring I guess phenomenon)

Quick note: Run the A/C to keep cool – absolutely – we just ask if you are out for a few hours or on a day trip you turn off before you go. Please leave windows and doors closed while the A/C is running. This prevents the A/C lines from freezing and the A/C to stop working.

The hot water, ie for the shower, takes several minutes to come thru. Let it run for a bit….just needs a bit more time – the hot water tank/boiler is on the roof for all the condo units. So it takes a little time to make the journey down 🙂 – also there is a clear plastic cover over the shower drains , just move to the side.

The entrance to the sea is a little rocky in places because of the reef, and we/residents of this bay – have left the bay inlet natural, but there are sandy patches – and Akumal Bay is within walking distance if you require a mainly sandy bottom. So we suggest you bring water shoes for this bay & Yal ku lagoon. But the Caribbean sea & this bay is shallow, warm (but refreshing too)! Lots of sandy areas on the beach between the gardens and shoreline.

January 2023 – Mexico enacted one of the world’s strictest anti-tobacco laws, completely banning smoking in all public places – this is supposedly a total ban. As of 2025 we are noticing it is not being upheld, but still no smoking allowed in restaurants. Also no smoking on Unit/Villa’s C’s patio – but is allowed on the Reef beach, as this is private property. Please please please be respectful of other guests, condo residents and dispose of your cigarette butts safely & daily.
